Indio builds its own AI and large-scale data products for the energy industry. We don't do client work: our engineers build Indio's products, working directly with the people who use them and alongside our data science team, and what we build goes to production.

We keep the team small and the bar very high. If you're the engineer other engineers go to, we'd like to hear from you. Parts of our work are confidential; we share more in interviews.

You'll design and run the services, pipelines and data models behind our products. You'll take our core algorithms and the data science team's models and make them fast, reliable and observable in production, working directly with the people who use them.

• —Design typed, async APIs and services in Python, and in Rust where performance demands it
• —Model data across relational, graph and vector stores, and manage migrations
• —Build background jobs, workflows and data pipelines that handle large volumes reliably
• —Take responsibility for the observability, security and performance of what you ship

• —Typed APIs and services, with clear contracts between them
• —Performance-critical algorithms in a compiled core, with product services around them
• —Pipelines and jobs designed to be rerun, observed and trusted
• —Tests, reviews and documentation as part of the work, not an afterthought

• —6+ years building and running production backend systems
• —Strong Python for web services: typed schemas, async I/O, authentication and background jobs
• —Relational data modeling and migrations you can defend
• —Multi-service experience: services talking over HTTP, caches, queues and workers
• —Tests as a habit: unit and integration
• —Production responsibility: monitoring, debugging and performance
• —Clear written communication

• —Language-model features: retrieval, embeddings and tool-using assistants
• —A major cloud platform in production
